Cross Stitch on Clothes: Free Patterns & Aida Tutorial
Have you ever thought about adding a little cross stitch to your favourite T-shirt?
I love the idea of turning everyday clothes into something a little more personal. And for this project, I decided to embroider three adorable little ducks onto a green T-shirt. They're small, colourful, and just too cute!
But there's a little challenge: how do you cross stitch on a fabric that doesn't have the usual holes and grid?
That's where Aida fabric comes in!

🪡 Cross Stitch on Clothes Using Aida Fabric
For this project, I used 14-count Aida fabric as a guide to stitch my design directly onto the T-shirt.
I positioned the Aida over the sleeve, secured it in place, and started stitching as I normally would.
Once the little ducks were finished, it was time for my favourite part: carefully removing the Aida threads!
The finished embroidery has a lovely raised texture, and the stitches feel surprisingly soft. I really like how the colours stand out against the green fabric.

Want to see exactly how I embroidered the little ducks onto my T-shirt?
In my YouTube video, I'll show you the whole process, from positioning the Aida and making the first stitches to removing the fabric and revealing the finished design.
💧 Coming Next: Water-Soluble Canvas!
This is just the first part of my little experiment!
For my next project, I'll be cross stitching on a hoodie using water-soluble canvas, a special embroidery fabric that dissolves in water.
I'm curious to see how it compares to Aida fabric, especially when it comes to stitching, removing the canvas, and the final result.
Have you ever tried cross stitching on clothes? I'd love to know which method you prefer!
